The beauty of diversity.
For a little discovery tour. For a wonderful experience. For your individual adventure.
For an exploration tour. For an experience. For an adventure.
In nature. High up on the mountain, with a longing for space.
Deep down in the valley, hiking and discovering. In village and town.
Up high and all around are giant mountains. Depending on the perspective, the most amazing and varied views unfold: at the highest point there is a panoramic view of the peaks of the Hirzer, Ifinger, Rittner Horn, Rosengarten and the Latemar. Alpine mountain joy. There are exotic palms, olive trees, vines, the popular Lake Kaltern and apple orchards. A Mediterranean paradise. And within it? A traditional, wine-influenced cultural landscape in which a multitude of things can be discovered!
Things to see around Kaltern am See
The town centre:
In the heart of Kaltern
Look forward to great shopping and events such as: long shopping Saturdays in spring & autumn, long Thursdays with a supporting programme in July & August, weekly markets on Wednesdays offering traditional, local specialities and products.
Mendelbahn:
64 % incline, 100 % experience
At its opening in 1903, it was the first electrically operated funicular railway in Tyrol and is considered the steepest and longest of its kind in Europe. It takes you up to the Mendelpass, where you can enjoy first class panoramic views over the Adige Valley and the South Tyrolean Unterland.
Frühlingstal:
A special natural spectacle
Between Montiggl and Lake Kaltern, lies the well-known Frühlingstal, which enchants both young and old in the spring with its carpet of snowdrops.
Ice holes:
A slightly different kind of refreshment
Between Kaltern and Eppan, near the village of Oberplanitzing, you can marvel at the rare natural phenomenon of the ice holes there. Thanks to the cold air that brings these to light, at only a few 500 meters above sea level, plants thrive that can otherwise only be found in alpine terrain.
The South Tyrolean wine museum:
In Vino Veritas.
Tea in England, Guinness in Ireland, wine in Kaltern: if you want to learn more about the customs and importance of wine and hear all sorts of stories on fine wines, you are in the right place.
Weinschmiede:
Where "passion" feels at home
Together with partner Robert Sinn from the St. Quirinus winery, junior boss Arthur opened the Weinschmiede wine house. It is a popular meeting place for wine connoisseurs and those who wish to become one. They are also happy to help you to choose the right drop of wine as a gift for those at home.
Talking of wine:
Wine and music events in Kaltern
A classic: At the "Ganz in WEISS" (All in White) event, which always takes place at the end of June, the latest white wines of the season are presented in the village centre.
Sophisticated drops of wine: Kaltern Wine Days always takes place on the first Thursday/Friday in September. Wine producers from Kaltern invite you to the tasting of the best white and red wines, with culinary accompaniments.
Big names: The Kaltern Pop Festival gives the stage up to national and international artists. It always takes place on the last weekend (THUR/FRI/SAT) in October.
